Vermont drivers knowledge test: what to expect
Vermont’s knowledge exam is a short multiple-choice test. Aim to understand the rules — not memorize random internet dumps.
Shape of the test
- Publicly described shape: about 20 questions, pass at roughly 80% (commonly 16 correct). Always verify current scoring on DMV.
- Topics: signs, right-of-way, speed and space, alcohol/impairment basics, Vermont rules you’ll actually use.
How to study
- Read the free official Vermont Driver’s Manual (VN-007) at dmv.vermont.gov.
- Drill weak spots (signs, GDL, school buses, phones) with practice questions.
- Book the exam by appointment — mydmv.vermont.gov or 888-970-0357.
If you don’t pass
Knowledge retakes usually require a wait (often at least one day) and another fee. Confirm current waits on DMV before you rebook.
